The last few weeks have been a busy and action packed time for us all here at the 82nd. To begin the adventure 50 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Young Leaders, Leaders and adults travelled to Wales to visit Puzzlewood – a magical woodland in the Forest of Dean. The weather, for a change was kind to us and saw children of all ages hunting for hidden objects in the forest to gain team points looking for everything from secret doors, hidden caves, stepping stones shaped like dinosaur feet and bridges. Although we did not spot an celebrities we were all fascinated to learn about the range of TV Shows and Films that were shot at Puzzlwood – from Robin Hood to Merlin, Doctor Who to Jack and the Giant Slayer. With a picnic lunch, an explore in the maze, a look at the animals, some group photos and time for a run around the adventure playground all were thoroughly worn out by the end of the day! |

The following morning, saw over 60 members of the group attend St George’s Parade, at St Mary Redcliff Church. The Leadership team were so completely amazed by the turn out, and would like to express a massive thank you to the parents and guardians for their support. The whole group looked incredibly smart in full uniform, including limited edition St George’s Day woggles and behaviour from all was impeccable throughout the parade, and the service which was themed around the Cub’s 100 Year Birthday! Our children NEVER fail to make us feel so proud to be Leaders of such an incredible group! |

The next activity saw a team of Scouts take part in a day of hiking in the Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons. Weather was a bit hit and miss, with rain showers to start but the sun shone through in time for a lunch stop near the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain. As it was a follow on hike from our day Hike to Cheddar in February it provided opportunity for Scouts to independently map read and to develop existing skills and building confidence with outdoor navigation in preparation for an over-night expedition in September. The Scouts worked so amazingly as a team and were so keen to learn as much as they could throughout the day. It was a real pleasure to spend the day with them! Well done to all those that took part, as at times it was hilly and terrain was much tougher than previous hikes but one and all got completely stuck in and it was great to take Scouting right back to basics – and out into the outdoors! |

More recently, 55 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and members of the Leadership team travelled to Woodlands in Totnes. The day was PACKED full of action and after arriving in style by coach and being split into groups, we headed in all directions to explore the rides and attractions that waited for us. Woodlands was a perfect destination for the age range of children we had as there really was something for absolutely everyone – rocking pirate ships, boat rides, animals, a giant indoor soft play, ball pits, bouncy castles, mirror maze, falcon displays, tobogganing, water slides, adventure play areas and this is on to name a few! The day flew by and children were already talking about what they wanted to do “next time” before we got on the coach! Lunch was a hot meal in Woodlands consisting of burgers, hotdogs, chips and jacket potatoes which kept even the hungriest of children well fed. A picnic on the grass before climbing back on the coach saw that everyone was certainly worn out and we had a record number of children asleep before we even reached the motorway! A massive thank you to all members of the Leadership Team who gave up their time to help make the trip so successful and to Steve for organizing the coach for us! |

Looking to the future, we can’t quite believe we still have our Parents and Friends evening to look forward to along with a trip to Weston Beach and our annual summer camp – “Cirque de Scouts” – a circus themed weekend long camp guaranteed to be a hit…. This really is a year of adventure! |
