Cottage Village Digs In...

Site development is well underway at our third tiny home community, Cottage Village. Construction of the first house is nearly complete, and site development for the rest of the project began in July. Foundations for the remaining twelve homes are going in this week, and after that we'll begin framing our next three homes!

Do you or someone you know have building experience and want to get involved? Fill out our volunteer form and we'll be in touch.

The next three homes we build at Cottage Village will follow the 12ft x 16ft design shown above. It was designed by SquareOne staff to be compact and cost-efficient while also accomodating lessons learned at our previous development, Emerald Village. The design implements the new Tiny House Appendix in the International Residentail Code, which has recently been adopted in the state of Oregon and allows for legal sleeping lofts accessed by a ships ladder. This allows for a more efficient use of space in our tiny homes.

We're also excited to announce that for a limited time you can receive a FREE set of complete construction documents for this design by signing up as a Level II Village Sustainer!

Emerald Village Nears Completion...

Emerald Village is now fully funded thanks to so many generous donors! We raised an amazing $138,757 over the past three months, and are now able to install the solar panels on the Community ClubHouse, build an office on site, complete the landscaping, and finish the remaining houses. A special thanks to Eugene Realtors Association for signing on to help us finish one of our ADA houses!

We're also excited to anounce that the ClubHouse is now complete, and it's already proven to be an invaluable asset for hosting village meetings and special events, as shown below.

The building serves as an extension of the 22 affordable tiny homes at Emerald Village, adding a flexible use space for gatherings and everyday use, a community kitchen for group meals, and laundary facilities. The village is organized as a housing co-operative, so the residents are responsible for managing and maintaing the building.

Construction of the exterior of the building was led by Bineham Construction, Inc. The company donated significant time and materials to the project along with support from New Way Electric, RiverBend Materials, Dynasty Concrete, Insul8, VaproShield, Evoke Flooring from Metropolitan Floors, and Miller Paint.

A neighborhood matching grant from the City of Eugene allowed us to finish the building out out with functional furnishings and stunning new kitchen appliances. As part of this grant, we matched the funding with gifts from the surrounding community. Local businesses provided discounted rates for interior finishes, and Emerald Village residents and supported provided 219 hours of sweat equity towards the effort.

Lightly used solar panels were donated by Allen Hancock of Duma Community, and installed by Solar Assist.

The building design was completed in house by our project director, Andrew Heben, and former project coordinator, Alicia Ginsberg. Structural engineering services were provided by Locke Engineering.
