| | If not now then when? It happens to all of us. Self care gets pushed to the wayside and then before we know if its been 6 months, or maybe even a year! And our bodies are hurting and begging us to take a pause and go get a massage. Don't let this happen to you. Book you next massage before you leave your appointment. Then, even if all you feel you can do is a couple months out, you have it on the schedule. I don't know about you, but unless it makes it into my google calendar chances are, it isn't happening. And you can always change your appointment with no penalty as long as you give me 24 hours notice. People often ask me, "How often should I get a massage?" It is a good question, and it depends on your goal and what you are coming in for. But for general maintenance I suggest every two weeks to a month. This is frequent enough so we won't be totally starting over each time and you can start to experience the benefits of regular massage, such as increased ease of movement, overall decrease in tension and stress levels, better sleep, and a decrease in chance of muscle related injuries. | | |
|
| | The biweekly or monthly schedule is a good one to keep those hard to notice issues from creeping up on you that come with the lifestyle most of us Americans live. This includes combating changes in posture that happen from desk jobs, driving, and looking at our phones too much. If you are coming in for something chronic, like headaches, insomnia, chronic back pain, or fibromyalgia I suggest starting with as often as twice a week and gradually spacing out sessions to every two weeks as symptoms improve. I would recommend a similar schedule for acute situations, like frozen shoulder, whiplash, or other injury recovery situations. But for these acute situations it is always best to see your doctor first. Massage is also essential for athletes to maintain muscle health and flexibility. If you are training hard for something a massage 2 to 3 times a week will help you perform at your peak, and I would say once a week is a minimum for any athlete. In the off season it is important to still get a massage at least once a month. In summary, if your goals are general wellness and maintenance biweekly or monthly is probably a good schedule for you. If there is something more specific we are working on I probably want to be seeing you weekly to start! So how long has it been since your last massage? Is it time to schedule your next session? | | |

| | Dances Of Universal Peace 3rd Saturday, November 16th, 7pm: Unity Church 2535 Leeds Avenue What makes your heart explode with so much love and make you feel like you have grown wings? Do more of that. For me, the Dances of Universal Peace, which I discover almost 10 years ago, make my heart break open over and over again, expanding and radiating more love and light. And so I continue to deepen in this practice, now leading them and offering their medicine to others. The Dances of Universal Peace are a spiritual practice of embodied prayer, drawing on sacred writings and songs from many spiritual traditions from around the world. They began in the late seventies and there are now circles all around the world! | | |
|

| | Tuesday night Kirtan 7pm, North Charleston E mail spsingleton.gwb@gmail.com to receive directions The photo above is from a a Kirtan a few weeks back and captures something so simple yet profoundly beautiful that I am eternally grateful for: Community circling together to support each other, creating and holding space to allow for authentic connection. The ways to do this are infinite and different for every person, whether it be your church group, a book club you belong to, your community yoga class, or a rotating neighborhood potluck. But the essence I believe is the same and something we all deeply crave and need: a community where we feel we belong. Humans, by nature, are tribal. And I say this as somewhat of a lone wolf, myself. I still need community and belonging. | | |
|
| | This weekly Kirtan circle has become the heartbeat of our tribe, and it started with a simple, yet most definitely courageous act of a couple of acquaintances reaching out to each other and saying we wanted to play music together. As our core group has stayed steady more people have joined us until it became clear we had outgrown our house. But, thankfully, we have found a new home for now at the community room in the pool house of our neighborhood, and have room to grow! So if you want to join us we start pretty much every Tuesday at 7:30 and sing and play together in an informal and relaxed atmosphere for about two hours. Sometimes we are 5 people, sometimes we are 20. And we want to be clear, this is not a performance, but a participatory community creation. All are welcome and no experience is necessary, but an open heart and a willingness to participate and sing along with us is requested. And for now we are keeping this event totally free. If you want to be put on the weekly reminder list for Tuesday Kirtan and to receive more specific directions to the location in our residential neighborhood in North Charleston please e mail spsingleton.gwb@gmail.com (my husband) and be asked to put on the Tuesday night Kirtan mailing list. Community is important. If you haven't found that sense of belonging don't change yourself to belong. Be the one who creates it. I guarantee your tribe is out there searching for you. | | |

| | SIMPLE and HEALTHY Pumpkin Pie. Ingredients: Filling: - One 15 oz can of organic pure pumpkin puree.
- 2/3 cup full fal coconut milk (blended)
- 6 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of sea salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 egg yolk
Crust: You can get creative here! Use a store bought pie crust if you want. Or make your own. This is one way I make crusts - A handful of pitted dates
- Handful of nuts of your choice (cashews, pecans, or walnuts work well)
- 1 cup gluten free flour mix (I like Bob's redial gluten free flour mix)
- 1/2 cup melted butter (grasped butter is the best!)
- Dash of salt
- 1 egg
| | |
|
| | For the crust: Preheat oven to 375 F. Pulse all the DRY crust ingredients in a food processor, or I use my bullet blender. It just takes a little longer and I sometimes have to do it in small batches. Then mix together egg and butter and mix into dry ingredients. I do this with a wooden spoon or my hands. If consistency seems too dry add a little more melted butter. If its too wet add more flour. Then push evenly into a 9" pie pan and bake for 10 minutes. For filling: Whisk all ingredients except eggs and egg yolk, then whisk in eggs ad egg yolk one at a time (don't over whisk) and pout into pie crust. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 375 for 1 hour or until filling is set. (fork should come out clean when you poke it, and pie should only be a tiny bit jiggly. Let cool at room temperature to avoid cracking. Adapted from the Paleo Running Momma. This desert is dairy free and paleo friendly. | | |
