Update on the Community Mosaic Project We held our first planning session with all the stakeholders and we are now working on two fronts. First, we want to select an artist who's work will inspire the mosaic project; and second, we need to continue raising funds! We will be sending out a Call for Artist to select an individual or group that has experience with mosaics and community projects. We are considering one of several themes: Nature, Cultural Diversity, Community or Youth. We are looking for something that will be reflect who we are as a community. Expect the request in August. We also refined our budget. The wall we want to build our artwork is relatively large, so now we're looking for a budget around $15-20,000. We have our Arts Council Napa Valley grant for $5000, so we are looking for support from community groups, individuals and local businesses. We talked about including large donation sponsors on the wall, using tiles that could include an organization's logo. We are also exploring a Youth Art Contest to be held at the new Boys & Girls Club Building. Tentatively scheduled for the weekend of October 27-28. The proceeds will go towards the Mosaic project. More on this later. |
