Danyelle Wilde

Athlete, CFK Coach, Mom to Be!

CFK Featured Athlete:

Danyelle Lee Wilde

Age: 30

Occupation: Pharmacy Technician at Kalamazoo Long Term Care

Date Started CFK:  December 31, 2016

In general, what is your athletic background?  I was not even kind of athletic in Highschool. I did some cross country running when I was in middleschool but shortly after that, nothing. Once I joined the army, I became more athletic/aware of working out.

How did you learn about CrossFit Kalamazoo? I was looking for a new gym. I felt I needed a change in gym that was a little closer to me as I had moved across town. I didn't want to have to travel too far from work/home at the end of the day to get my fitness in.!

How has CrossFit Kalamazoo changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? CrossFit makes me a more confident person. It gives me a need to be healthy/stronger than I have been before. I enjoy small victories and my ability to surprise even myself at what the body can do.

List short/long term goals you would like to accomplish through CrossFit Kalamazoo: Short term – be able to come back after the baby and still rock some WODs!

Long term – Finally get some consistent double unders and really work on getting strict pull ups down. Like, maybe 10. Hahah.

What do you like most about CrossFit Kalamazoo? The community is great. Couldn't ask for a better group of people to workout with and egg on to do better. The coaches are fantastic. Always there to help and instruct and make sure everyone is doing safe movements.

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? The Deadlift. It makes me feel strong. Lol!

What is your least favorite CrossFit movement? The snatch. I think it's a mental game with that one. I have weaker shouldersand one really bad one so I'm always scared I'm going to hurt myself again. It's an incredibly technical movement and I respect it for that.

What are you currently doing to try to improve your diet? Eat cleaner. When I go out to eat I try to choose stuff with greens in it and isn't fried. I'll still indulge every once and a while though. (Sweetwaters anyone???)

Favorite movie: The Labyrinth. When I was little, we had it recorded on VHS. I watched it until the tape would come out of the VCR and my dad had to wind it back in until it was unwatchable. Hahah.

Favorite and/or current book: Harry Potter series will probably always be my favorite/most memorable. Typically anything fantasy/sci-fi though.

Favorite music genre/artist: My go-to when I'm not feeling anything poppy/current will probably always be 90's/early 2000's punk rock. Things like All Time Low, Mayday Parade, My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco, etc.

Achievements you’d like to highlight within your life:  I joined the Army at 17 (I'm still in). I managed to go through 2 years of training and got my EMT-B and Licensed Practical Nurse license by 19. (never used either, found out I hated both jobs)... In 2012, I went back through 6 months of Army training to learn Physical Therapy (ofc they don't give you a license). And then in 2017 I got married to the love of my life.

List a few things we don’t know about you: Oh dear. I love video games. Role-playing video games. Anything fantasy/sci-fi. I watched a lot of anime (ok, I still do) and read manga. I wanted to be an artist when I grew up, so I also drew a lot. I still kindado from time to time. I still love coloring. lol

On-Ramp Classes - A 6 Week Fitness Journey!

Our On-Ramp class provides coaching in a smaller group setting and is mandatory for those who are new to CrossFit. This class is programmed to teach you the movements, techniques and lingo as we want to ensure you have a good foundation built before you jump into our regular WOD!

The On-Ramp classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday at 5pm, 6pm, 7pm or 8pm.

The On-Ramp Class is bundled with a monthly membership as we find this is ideal for those looking to start a new fitness journey. During this 6 week period, two weeks will be dedicated to 5-1 hour On-Ramp classes that need to be completed before you join the regular WOD.  Upon On-Ramp completion, you advance to our regular WODs and will  have 4 weeks of unlimited visit membership.  This block of time allows your body  to adjust to a new fitness program and gives you time to get familiar with the moves. By the end of the 6 week period, will see how things start to fall together and you will start to see results of your hard work!   You will start too look forward to doing burpees and moving heavy stuff! :-) All while surrounded by an encouraging CFK Community cheering you on!

The On-Ramp classes are led by Coach Paige.  Please call  269-251-1677 for more information regarding cost of class and to schedule your start date!
