Wow! January went quickly. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Stacey Larson, and I am the Director of Operations here at the Jacoby Arts Center. I have been with the Jacoby Arts Center for about a year and a half and have lived in Alton for 13 years, including 7 years as a small business owner with my husband. I also have a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Studies. I am always inspired and fascinated by both professional and emerging artists and their work, and am excited to serve the Jacoby Arts Center to nurture and promote the practice and appreciation of the arts in our community. When you visit, you likely will notice a new face greeting you. Heather Knowlton has joined the Jacoby Arts Center team and brings with her a background in writing and a love of arts. She will be tackling our marketing and promotions, sprucing up the Artist Shop, helping you with any questions, and helping keep Jacoby Arts Center clean and operating smoothly. Jacoby Arts Center also welcomed three new Board of Directors in January: Sue Mueller, Whitney Perdun and Roger Lewis. Sue Mueller has been involved with theater for more than 45 years as a performer, stage manager and director. She will be active in helping with Performances, Marketing, and Fundraising here at Jacoby. Whitney Perdun is an Art Therapist and has worked in area schools and health centers. She also is a Photographer. Whitney will be active in working with our Education, Exhibition, and our Development and Community Outreach Committees. Roger Lewis is an art enthusiast and brings years of experience in business development, including major businesses in Alton and across the country. He will be active in our Development & Community Outreach and Fundraising Committees. We were visited by the film crew of The Small Business Revolution while they were in town in January on their tour of small towns in the running to be featured on their series "Main Street". #MyAlton. Alton has so much to offer and we hope to continue our role as a center for creativity, broadening perspectives of life, and engaging imaginations. As always, we have something for everyone and we look forward to seeing you here. Our galleries are FREE and open to the public Thursday-Saturday 10am-5pm. Visit our website for a schedule of other goings-on.

ARTIST SHOP One of a kind, hand crafted and artisan designed ceramics and glass ware, wood spoons, spatulas, and bowls, eco-dyed silk scarves, semi-precious stone beading and reclaimed barn tin jewelry, small paintings, prints, and photographs by local artists. Kevin Jeffreys of "What Wood Kevin Do" is one of the artists we feature here in our Artist Shop. Here's what he says about how he started his work: "I got into general woodworking as a hobby around 2004. Until 2014, I primarily made things such as chairs, tables, clocks, and picture frames for the house and to give as gifts. In early 2013, I got divorced and moved to a different house where a set up my woodshop in the basement but was not inspired to do anything in it. One night while washing dishes, my cheap bamboo spatula came apart and was rendered useless. Rather than buy a new one, I decided to head to the shop and make my own. It took a few attempts to get the shape just right, but I ended up with one I still use almost everyday. That success inspired me to make a few more as gifts for my friends and family. They all seemed to like them so I kept making them." The Artist Shop is open when we are. Come see us Thursday - Saturday 10 am - 5 pm! |

EVENT RENTALS Jacoby Arts Center is a beautiful and distinctive setting for your next special event, a celebratory party, business meeting, or community gathering. We can serve your needs with tables and chairs, wifi, a great stage, high ceilings and airy elegant space. “The Jacoby embodies the historic, post-industrial, creative, quirky spirit that separates the Riverbend from the suburbs.” — Vicki Allen "Working with JAC was very easy. Stacey was very flexible in responding to our needs and offered many great ideas that helped make our party a resounding success. We were looking for a location that was a step above the average banquet room. JAC helped make our 50th Anniversary Party a beautiful, classy, and enjoyable event that could not be equaled in the Alton area. We would gladly rent the room again.” — Jamie Pullen | | |
