I THOUGHT I WAS AN OILY DOG TRAINER
I have recently had a friend's dog stay with me who was quite a bit fearful! I was at a loss, I had tried to make her feel welcome! I tried playing with her, my four dogs tried to play with her and she played a little but no much, she wouldn't eat, and 8/10 she wouldn't take my treats-especially not outside!
Finally after three days I asked my friend what she thought and she had some very helpful insights! My friend said, "she's fearful, she doesn't know any of you She's thirsty so try giving her some bone broth with some probiotics in it. Oh and she wants some oils-Young Living Valor." So I jumped up and tested the idea. I offered her Peace and Calming and she walked away. I called her back and offered her Valor II (a substitute for Valor but it has some slightly different ingredients), she walked out of the room again. I offered her Valor, and wouldn't you know it...she sniffed the bottle then just stood there as if to say, "rub that on me!" I accidentally poured about 10 drops down her spine and rubbed it in well. Within thirty minutes there was a noticeable diiference. She drank all her bone broth, she went outside with me and actually took treats! She just acted more confident and calm than she had in the days previous. It was so much easier to train her after that and I reapplied the essential oil to her ears and back every day about twice a day. I should've known that it was essential oils she needed, but I was thinking too hard about other aspects, ha, and I thought I was an oily dog trainer! LOL!
HOW I USE ESSENTIAL OILS FOR TRAINING
I usually use essential oils in training without my client's knowing. Before I go into my client's house, I apply an essential oil to the toes of my sneakers. It's a very subtle way to diffuse the essential oil and it really does help. I like to use Valor, Peace and Calming, Lemon, Orange, and Vetiver most of the time! If the client allows me to, I like to apply the oil to the dog or if they have a diffuser, I ask them to diffuse an oil of their choice.
WHAT ARE THESE OILS YOU SPEAK OF?!
You may be thinking, "Ok Katie, what on Earth are you talking about?!" Read about what an essential oil is right here on my website https://www.southernpawstraining.com/oilsdogs and let me know if I can help you further!
