Vernman Entertainment Continues to Take Over Baltimore

Vernman Entertainment continues to take over Baltimore. We sat down with Vernon Boon who has become a strong promoter, organizer and community leader. Anyone who has ever attended his events will confirm lots of laugh, great food (free most of the time), HOUSE music, and another opportunity to bring people together. His company Vernman Entertainment strives to bridge the gap between community groups. He truly enjoy investing time into developing activities that people will enjoy. His overall vision is to provide wholesome fun for many generations and create a family style atmosphere for those that come together for a good time. He believes that every interaction can foster a relationship, whether it is a short time or a lifetime. Though his events- are the fire starter for many of these relationships.

For the past 25 years, he found friends across the country, and often assist in putting their visions into reality. He have hosted events in Atlanta, Durham, Washington DC, Tampa, Orlando, and of course Baltimore. Baltimore is his home and he truly understands that it is a hidden gem filled with many opportunities. His goal is to provide entertainment for many age groups and community groups regardless of sexual orientation. "I do not target any specific group, but I do support anyone willing to have a great time and invested in coming together for the purpose of unity", says Vernon Boon.

He will be hosting a Fish Fry and BBQ Weekend at the Apollo S&D Club, which will take place May 19th and 20th. "I am also in support of the Baltimore Black Gay (LGBTQ) Pride taking place June 13th- June 18th. In addition, we will be taking a bus trip to the Newark Music Festival, specifically on the house music day, which is Saturday July 29th. We are working with Eboni Pyramd Entertainment to bring our biggest promotion. Our Pride Ski Trip taking place February 16th-18th, 2018 at Honors Haven Resort and Spa. There will also be day parties hosted in between, so stay tuned for those events", says Vernon Boon.

For now, if you need to know more information, you can email Vernon Boon directly at vernman923@yahoo.com or checkout Vernon's Facebook page. Baltimore pride will take place June 13th- June 18th. They have planned for several events which include an A-List Party, Male Review, a Hip-Hop Party, a Meet and Greet Social, a Ladies Night, and an Explosive Party to cap off the week. Many people are putting lots of time into making this an enjoyable event for the Baltimore community and surrounding areas.

DC Mayor Muriel E. Bowser Previews Rainbow-Colored Crosswalks
Community-Led Installation Celebrates Annual Capital Pride Parade in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC– On Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with community members, will preview the installation of temporary rainbow-colored crosswalks in DuPont Circle and ask residents to join her at the Capital Pride Parade. Mayor Bowser will also call on DC artists to submit designs for four storm drains on 17th Street, NW to the DC Department of Energy and Environment and the Anacostia Watershed Society. Each storm drain will raise awareness about storm water pollution in the District’s waterways and promote the LGBTQ identity of the neighborhood. DC artists who are interested in participating should visit anacostiaws.org. Deadline for submission is June 16, 2017.

Since taking office in 2015, Mayor Bowser has promoted inclusive prosperity and diversity to protect the rights of the LGBTQ community in Washington, DC. As Co-Chair of the Mayors Against Discrimination, a bipartisan coalition of municipal leaders dedicated to securing inclusive nondiscrimination protections for all, Mayor Bowser will continue to ensure the District provides the highest level of civil rights protections for LGBTQ residents.

Marching with DC Mayor Muriel E. Bowser in the Capital Pride Parade

As a Commissioner with the Mayor's Office of LGBTQ Affairs Advisory Board, I was proud to be apart of DC Mayor Muriel E. Bowser's Green Team as she led a huge contingent in this year's Capital Pride parade on June 10th. The streets along the parade route were packed with record numbers of revelers including the full spectrum of the LGBT+ community and our allies.

Investments To Improve The District

Hello, friend,

The Council just finished five weeks of public hearings on the city’s fiscal year 2018 budget and now is working vigorously to finalize it. I’ve heard testimony from many of the District’s agencies, community advocates, and everyday residents about how they think the city should spend its nearly $14 billion budget. I want to share some insights into the process and the investments I’ve been fighting for.

My team and I have pored over the Mayor's budget proposal and public testimonies, and discussed how we can best invest your tax dollars. I was committed to adding investments to my priority areas of education, affordable housing, workforce development, and returning citizens. On top of my priorities, I've advocated for $25 million for the arts and humanities locally, because I fear that the federal government may defund the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

May Financial Tips | Watu Jackson, Chief Executive Officer for W Financial Solutions, LLC.

Okay so we're well into the second quarter of the year and the tax deadline has passed. At this point many of us have given up on our new year new me goals. For those who haven't kudos to you for having the perseverance and stamina to stick with those goals, and if those goals were financial even better.

One of the reasons we don't stick to our goals is because we don't plan on how to do so. Every year I see calendar charts for saving money for the year on different social media platforms but how many of us actually stick to them who've tried them.

Taking baby steps towards your goals are steps nonetheless. If you have a savings goal for the month or year, rather then trying to dump all the money in a savings account at once why not move over increments daily.

If you're already living on a tight budget and don't think your income enough to save you have two options review your budget and make sacrifices (a word many of us hate) or find methods of making additional income. DO YOUR GOOGLES!

It's still early in the year if you fell off it's not too early to hop back on!

The summer is here and so are all of the graduations, outdoor concerts, a family events. We tend to be on the go more when the weather is nice, and that can lead to lack of hydration. Our bodies are made up of 75% water which is distributed throughout our cells, blood vessels, and between cells. Our bodies require that our water levels remain at a certain level. If we do not maintain our water levels we become dehydrated. Dehydration can be reversed with an adequate amount of water intake, but can cause symptoms such as dry mouth, less sweating, muscle cramps, and headaches. If untreated for a long period of time, dehydration can cause organ failure, coma, or death.

The best way to prevent dehydration is by drinking more water. It is important to know that caffeinated drinks, sugared drinks, and alcohol cause dehydration or help to speed up your dehydration. If you are not a water drinker because of the lack of flavor, try adding real fruit (via a water infuser) to your water and allow it to sit overnight. Your fruit will ferment and give a light flavor for you to be able to drink. If you must purchase your flavored water from the store ensure your water has no artificial chemicals, no food coloring, and no corn syrup. Of course the best way to make sure your hydrating your body is to drink plain water.

Get out and enjoy the weather this summer but please don’t forget to stay hydrated!

Our Q&A with Memphis, TN transplant new to the District with hopes of seeing how people find success so he can remix it and make it work for him. His Facebook profile says three things to know about him: Party Wings, Beyoncé, and Tequila. Any occasion with those three are a plan for success.

Ronald Matters studied journalism with a concentration in magazine back in 2005 but knew online was the growing industry. In order to get in the door whatever I started had keep my interest so I knew I had to talk about ‘things that matter to me’. That became my blog’s tagline. Life as a gay, Black man – notice which descriptive adjective is placed first - my identity is represented in my blog. Is that cheesy?

Q&A with Jamil Fletcher

Publisher/Editor at SWERV Magazine

www.swervmagazine.com

Jamil Fletcher is a pretty laid-back brother in his early 50's. Did I say "early" 50's. He's a typical child born in the 1960's (1965 to be exact!) who loves great music (jazz, funk, R&B, funk, etc...), sports (tennis, football, basketball, track & field, etc..).

A native of Wilmington, Delaware. Jamil came to D.C. to study Electrical Engineering at Howard University, and immediately fell in love with the city. Although he lived in other places like Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and back to Wilmington, the D.C. area is home to Jamil who currently lives a quiet, suburban life in Prince George's County.
