Bereavement Counselling
My name is Paula Dalton and I am the counselling coordinator for Charlie’s Angel Centre.
Within my role I help manage the referral process, helping bereaved families find the right counsellor to support them. Bereavement is a hard process for everyone, but especially difficult for those dealing with the loss of a child. Charlie’s Angel Centre ensures you get the help you need, when you need it.
Counselling is a dedicated time where you can discuss how you are feeling. Often times our friends or family will have tried to help us with our grief, however, counselling is different in that you don’t need to protect the needs of the counsellor. You can talk about the hurt and the anger, the loss of a future for your child and all the frustrations you are experiencing. The counsellor will not judge you or give you advice. You are free to talk about whatever you choose with your counsellor and it will all be kept confidential. Talking is a useful way to help understand our feelings. Occasionally we haven’t ordered our thoughts, then given the right space, we can open up to someone and share our emotions in a way that feels safe for us. When going through a difficult time we tend to shield our loved ones, we don’t want to talk to them in case we upset them. This is where counselling is different to any other relationship.
Here at Charlie’s Angel Centre, we offer up to six appointments with a counsellor to support you through this difficult time.
If you feel counselling isn’t for you, maybe you would benefit from some peer support at our fortnightly support group. Here are the dates for your calendar for 2016.
