March

Newsletter

Ok, so now it's March. February was great, but a doozy. I've been thinking a lot about how quickly everything is moving, this isn't just because I'm growing older. The speed of things traveling, in general, has increased greatly, especially over this past decade.

Really though, think about it. Just look at Instagram, Twitter, the news, all social media outlets really, even this newsletter can be viewed by hundreds of thousands, millions of eyeballs with just a few keystrokes and a click.

Likes, views, etc, has morphed into a form of currency. Many folks, myself included can trick ourselves into thinking this coincides with our own personal value.

*My newsletter views max at around 500, for now...

With things moving so fast, where can we slow down? I've found yoga to be such a valuable tool. You can give yourself permission a few minutes to even a couple of hours to explore movements in your body with the synchronicity of being a part of a group, or in the privacy of your home, getting to know yourself from the inside. Yoga and meditation are so wonderful, but if I am being completely honest, I don't meditate enough to really experience optimum benefits. I guess perhaps now as I write this, I have to just do it. Every day. Will update you all next month.

I feel as though modern society, the human race has gotten it wrong. We should be living in nature more, being more purest and simple.

But soft serve or hard ice cream, what light through yonder window breaks?

It is the east, and CHOCOLATE flavored anything is the sun.

Arise fair sun!

See what I did there? Alright, I know I'm no Shakespeare, but I let my seemingly tame sweet tooth run wild this month, sending me down a rocky road and a lot of brain fog (pun intended, I really did overdo it with the pints this month).  I blame Ben and Jerry, but mostly myself (and this weather). I'm not too hard on myself about this, because I love myself and my body, but I will use this mental fog as a touchstone to get back on track. I'm dreaming of all the beautiful healthy nourishing meals on retreat next month in Mexico cannot come soon enough. Retreat a great way to hit the reset button so to speak, and connect to your intentions in a space away from your habitual patterned state.

*This is one of the bungalows at Present Moment Retreat center. All bungalows have an indigenous palapa thatched roof, hand-crafted in the Mexican tradition.

"Becoming aware of intention is the key to awakening in moment-to-moment practice. In each situation that calls for our engagement, some inner intention will precede our response. Buddhist psychology teaches that intention is what makes the pattern of our karma. Karma, the cause and results of every action, comes from the heart’s intentions and precede each action. When our intentions are kind, the karmic result is very different from when they are greedy or aggressive. If we are not aware, we will unconsciously act out of habit and fear. But if we attend to our intentions, we can notice if they spring from the body of fear or from our deliberate thoughtfulness and care."
