SBNF Membership: Privacy Rights and Responsibilities

You are receiving this email because at some point between 2014 and now, you signed up to become a member of the Neighbourhood Forum. As we are nearing the end of the Neighbouhood Plan making process, we need to ensure you are aware of three laws which relate to your membership.

 

If you are happy with the way we process your data and your address has not changed since you joined, then you do not need to do anything.

 

However, if your details have changed or you have any questions or concerns, we aim to provide answers below.

1. The Cookie Law

Don't worry, the cookie law is not a draft policy on banning snacks ;). It relates to technical 'cookies' - little data files - which are used to store useful information when you visit our website. Almost all websites use them.

 

As you are no doubt aware, legislators want website owners to be more transparent about how these cookies are used. Please click here to see how we use this essential data to understand residents' needs, provide evidence and inform the creation of the Neighbourhood Plan. As you can see from the chart below, we need more young people to get involved.

 

The website has been visited by at least 2,000 people who are based within commuting distance of Shoreham. The more you visit the website, the more we understand about what you want for the area.

2. Data Protection

Laws are being tightened to tackle spam and protect your privacy. We are obliged to inform you that we hold details of your name, email address and your physical home address. This information is required by law for all Neighbourhood Plan members and we are obliged to check that the validity of your address. We may also hold details of your general age group and phone number if you chose to share that with us. 

 

Please rest assured that your detailds will not be shared and will only be used in relation to the Neighbourhood Plan. It is stored securely and will be deleted once the Plan is made. Data is aggregated and anonymised for research and evidence purposes.

How we use your Data

If you registered online, we would have sent you a confirmation email which listed the information you shared with us. If you don't remember registering online, or your details have changed, please click here to re-apply for membership.

In addition to membership, you may wish to join our mailing list to receive email updates whenever important new content is added to the website (about once a month). If you later decide you don't need such frequent updates, you may click the 'unsubscribe' link at the bottom of one of these emails. This will not affect your membership status and you will continue to receive essential emails to members.

3. Legal Responsibilities of members

As stated on our membership application form, all members must agree to some basic conditions of Neighbourhood Planning.

 

  • members must agree to abide by the constitution
  • members must live or work within the designated area
  • must be appropriate having regard to national policy
  • must contribute to the achievement of sustainable development
  • must be in general conformity with the Local Plan
  • must be compatible with human rights requirements
  • must be compatible with EU obligations (excluding straight bananas:)

 

If you do not agree to abide by these conditions, please reply to this email stating that you no longer wish to be a member of the Neighbourhood Forum.
