Officially the start of summer it also marks the beginning of shorter days, so for those struggling with the heat and long summer evenings this may be a bit of a relief! But we still have many weeks of fine summer weather to look forward to.
In Egypt the Summer Solstice marked the beginning of the flooding season, which ensured crops for winter - so an important time of year culturally. And for those in the in the Northern Hemisphere, the Summer Solstice is a time of celebration, of honoring the light, our connection to the Sun and the Earth. Every culture has festivals to honor this day and our ancestors around the earth built numerous monuments to commemorate this time.
I saw a beautiful quote that said of the Summer Solstice: “(It) is the time to invite fire into our lives fire to burn away all that we have outgrown and all that no longer serves us; fire that makes the wild things grow in us, for which our inner selves have longed."
