Happy summer solstice!

21 June 2017

How have you been with this heat? We have been having picnics or barbecuing on the beach most evenings and enjoying plenty of swims with the dog.  The benefits of living by the coast!

If you feel you've been melting a bit, the good news is that from next week I will have a heavenly Dyson fan in my therapy room - so book your session and be assured that we will both stay as cool as possible.

Today is the Summer Solstice - the longest day of the year.  The word “solstice” originates from two Latin words, “sol” (sun) and “sistere” (which means to stand still), because the seasonal movement of the sun's path - as seen from Earth - momentarily comes to a stop before reversing direction, apparently.

Officially the start of summer it also marks the beginning of shorter days, so for those struggling with the heat and long summer evenings this may be a bit of a relief!  But we still have many weeks of fine summer weather to look forward to.

In Egypt the Summer Solstice marked the beginning of the flooding season, which ensured crops for winter - so an important time of year culturally.  And for those in the in the Northern Hemisphere, the Summer Solstice is a time of celebration, of honoring the light, our connection to the Sun and the Earth.  Every culture has festivals to honor this day and our ancestors around the earth built numerous monuments to commemorate this time.

I saw a beautiful quote that said of the Summer Solstice:  “(It) is the time to invite fire into our lives fire to burn away all that we have outgrown and all that no longer serves us; fire that makes the wild things grow in us, for which our inner selves have longed."

Beautiful, huh?  I have many tools to help you manage change in your life, whether through homeopathy or with massage or Reiki.  Just give me a call for a chat.

Hot, hot, hot!!

It really has been sweltering this week, but I am lucky that my therapy room is very private so I've been able to have the window open and my clients have been enjoying the cool breeze and accompanying birdsong.

Even better news is that a super dooper all bells & whistles fan is arriving on Monday!

So don't let the weather put you off from enjoying your 'me-time'.  Click the button below and book your session.  I look forward to seeing you and enjoying the cool breeze together!

Are you always tired?  Can't shake the lethargy?

So many of my clients have been dealing with emotional, mental and/or physical stress for so long for whatever reason. Constantly tired. Lethargic. Mind always buzzing with what needs to be done.... Sound familiar? You may well be suffering from adrenal fatigue.

If this sounds like it could be you, book in for regular massage sessions. It may well be the answer for you.

Multiple studies have shown that massage therapy can lower cortisol levels, increase dopamin and serotonin (our happy, feel-good hormones) and lower excitatory hormones like norepinephrine and epinephrine - otherwise known as adrenaline.

If you have too much norepinephrine or epinephrine it can lead to feelings of anxiety. Too little dopamine and serotonin can cause depression and other psychological problems. It is such a fine balancing act! And if massage therapy can help to bring that balance then it may just be the right approach for you.
