Our Biweekly Newsletter -  19 May 2017

Check out what we've been up to so far this month & what's coming up next!

Thank you for visiting the shop and for bringing along your friends!

Come see it while it lasts!

We at SewGreen@Rochester have been so grateful and proud to collaborate with Olek and with nearly 200 crocheters in the Rochester area for the Rochester edition of this amazing crochet art installation. We hope you will find an opportunity to come see it and to visit us! It is scheduled to come down on Memorial Day weekend.

The mural consists of 351 crocheted 2'x2' squares that are fit together. It honors one of Rochester's best-known women: Susan B. Anthony, and hangs on our building at the entrance to Rochester's Susan B. Anthony Neighborhood.

Love Across the USA is a community public art project started by Olek, an active supporter of women's rights who has used her art to advocate for women's issues worldwide. The goal of this project is to celebrate positive women's voices throughout United States' history by bringing women, men, and children together through community workshops and public art installations.

Above, many of the crocheters were able to celebrate with us the day after the mural was hung. At left, our own Josefina Calzada with Olek during the celebration.

At the Shop Recently...

Kids' Sewing Club concentrated on making gifts for the mothers in their lives this past weekend. They each made felt pin-cushions, and decorated them with fabric, stitches and buttons.

Upcoming Classes...

Embroidery Machine DemoLorraine Anderson and a friend will be joining us at the shop, Saturday, May 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to demonstrate their Embroidery Machines. Stop in and see how these machines make embellishment easy!

Tatting with Patti
In French there's just one word for both frivolity and tatting: frivolité! But we think this dying art of intricate, lacy knot-making is anything but frivolous. Come in and knot with Patti, who usually knits, Monday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m.

Hand Embroidery

Embrace the fading art of embroidery. From lazy daisy and feather stitches to French knots and Roumanian couching, let's rediscover fine needlework together! For ages 5 and up. Tuesday, May 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m.

Closed for Memorial Day
The shop will be closed all day, Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day.

Serger 101/201

Sergers can be a little intimidating but they are great sewing tools once you understand how to use and adjust them to suit your project. Bring your serger, or sit down at the shop sergers, and learn the basics of threading and tension in our Serger 101 class.

If you've learned the basics, and want to go further, Serger 201 is the class for you. Go beyond the basics with us! Both 101 and 201 classes are taught side-by-side, Tuesday, May 30, from 11 to 1 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m. If you are bringing your own serger, please, remember to bring your manual and feet. Thanks!
