Bee Prepared! For our fellow Beekeepers, Many of you are in the process of picking up your bees or preparing for your bee arrival. What an exciting time! If you need any help or have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out. We have equipment setups available for anyone still setting up. Contact us for more info, or check out our online inventory. Remember to consider mite treatments when your bees arrive, especially packages from the warmer climates. Also want to remind everyone feeding is imperative to building comb when the nectar flow is not on. (do not feed with honey supers on or your honey will be sugar) Be ready with some simple syrup to let your bees fill their brood chambers with comb to fill with eggs, brood, nectar etc., to prepare for winter. If this is your first year with your bees, your goal is to get them prepared for over wintering.. this starts NOW! We recommend a simple board-man feeder. Below we have attached several educational resources for beekeepers. The first one is a free lecture by TJBP on Beekeeping 101 for anyone seeking a crash course on keeping bees in the Northeast. The second resource is by New York Bee Wellness who is giving a free Webinar on May 3rd 7pm on swarms and splits. The last resource listed here is a four part series from the Northeast IPM Center on a Healthy Hive. We are working diligently on uploading our 5 week Beekeeping Course online to Google Classroom for a July Session, so stay tuned and follow our social media for upcoming announcements. These resources are also always listed on our website under "Bee Educated - Resources". Please utilize all of the information that you can to BEE RESPONSIBLE and take good care of your bees! For any questions respond to this email directly and we will buzz you in the right direction. |

THE COMEBACK IS ALWAYS GREATER THAN THE SETBACK A shout out to a dear friend and pillar in the Washingtonville Community. Corinne Courtney, owner of Nailed It - Hardware in Washingtonville painted this mural on her building on Easter Morning as an inspiration and beacon of hope which represents how our communities will bounce back after the hardships we are enduring today. As an "essential business" Nailed It Hardware has remained open with limited hours and is encouraging free delivery or pickup to adhere to social distancing guidelines. So much so that Corinne is hosting the WORC program to deliver not only for herself but other small businesses in the area that may not have the resources to deliver their product line safely to the public. We are so grateful for businesses like this one who lift everyone up. Corinne always says "A Rising Tide Lifts ALL Boats". We are in this together. For more information on the WORC delivery program and how to participate please respond to this email and Beez and I will help you get started. This story is just one of many in our communities where business owners, volunteers and community members are banning together to keep each other safe, healthy and economically sound. Gami Penaherrera - owner of ForeverFitWithGami on Dept Street is offering free fitness classes to emergency and healthcare workers. Ann Bell - owner of "Healing Haven" on Main Street Washigntonville is delivering food and supplies to those in need even when her own doors are shut. Kevin Radday - owner of "Betty's Country Kitchen" is donating meals to essential workers including emergency services, hospital workers and Stop and Shop staff. If you would like to donate a meal to a family or a staff in the area, contact Betty's and their team will help. We thank you all for your selfless actions and efforts to keep Washingtonville and the surrounding area afloat. Together we will come back stronger than before! |
