Desert Penguins Junior Chess Club is celebrating success of our players in local and national competitions.
Congratulations
Saahil Bansal who is currently 5th place in U13 years old English Youth Grand Prix standings. He scored 415 points at the tournaments during 2017/18 season.
As a result, Saahil will represent our chess club and England at Berlin International Junior Chess Tournament later this year.
Andrew MacLeod who took £60 grading prize at Coulsdon Easter Rapidplay. Andrew is currently 15th place in U10 years old English Youth Grand Prix standings.
Aman will now represent the club in the EPSCA County Final Under 11 years old which will take place in Birmingham.
Arman Tengayev and Ismail Longia-Zaidi who got second place with Kent U9 team at the recent EPSCA east Zonal Semifinal. They will represent Desert Penguins at the coming Finals.
We are delighted that 5 Desert Penguins players will take part in World Cadets Rapid and Blitz Championships in Minsk. It will be an unique experience playing children from all around the world. We wish Laith Harb (U8 section), Yad Rahman (U8 section), Ismail Longia-Zaidi (U10 section), Arman Tengayev (U10 section) and Andrew Macleod (U10 section) the very best of luck!
English Chess Federation updates their grading database twice a year February and July. This is when the players find out their grades and how much progress was made in the past 6 months.

We are extremely pleased with Yad`s rapid grade grade jump from 7 to 56. Yad has the most improved grade score in the UK in Under 8 years old category.
Desert Penguins hosted qualifying stage event for Delancey UK Chess Challenge Megafinals on the 17 March 2018. Over 100 children from different parts of London and SE came to Barnes to play in the tournament. Snow and wintry conditions did not spoil the spirit of enthusiasm, determination and enjoyment of the game.
Desert Penguins got 2 medals: Alex Royce and Laith Harb came 2nd and 3rd in the U7 Section. Yad Rahman came 4th in U9 Section and Antonio Valentin Pena came 5th in U11 Section. Congratulations to Adam, Martin, Raphael, Arran, Maria who played very well in their first ever chess tournament.
Desert Penguins Junior Chess Club runs training sessions at Barnes Sports Club every Monday from 5.45 - 7.15pm during term time. Join us to improve your chess skills and enjoy friendly but competitive games.
