The NBAA hosted the second Bank Windhoek National Competition of the year on the 25th of March 2017 at S. Von Bach dam. The venue was warmly welcomed by all anglers as it has been almost a year since we hosted a competition at the dam. The prevailing drought during the previous years have resulted the dam level in reaching a low of 9% before the rainy season started last year. The site of 55% water level Von Bach brought joy to all anglers that attended the competition. A total of 18 boats with 23 anglers attended the competition.

The prospect of this magical fishing destination returning to all its glory has rekindled a flame in many old competitive anglers and we expect our attendance numbers to increase throughout the rest of the year! The fishing will improve and the NBAA would like to encourage all anglers to go to Von Bach to witness the spectacle of a dam rising from the dead. There is new life all over and it really is quite a sight.

Fishing conditions were still a little challenging with the rapid rise in water levels but none the less everyone had a great time on the water. A total of 8 fish made it to the scales. The drought has lead to Von Bach being in a bit of turmoil at the moment, with massive quantities of bait fish visible all over the dam. The bass that were caught were extremely fat and very healthy looking and have quite obviously been stuffing themselves with the over abundant bait fish. Most fish were caught on soft plastic baits, fished extremely slowly with 1 fish being caught on an underspin and one on a Zara spook, which turned out to be the biggest fish of the tournament.

The heaviest fish for the day was caught by Gregg Howard, a new member to the NBAA, it weighed in at 2.735kg. Well done Gregg!!

Willem Burger missed half of 2015 and the whole of 2016. It seems as if Willem is determined to make a comeback clinching 2nd place after an absence of over a year and a half. The NBAA is over the moon to see Willem, an ex-chairman of the NBAA, back on the water!!

We had 3 lady anglers that attended the competition but unfortunately none of them was able to weigh in a fish.

The 3rd Bank Windhoek National Tournament will be taking place on Lake Oanob on the 22nd of April. Hopefully the fishing will be on fire. We look forward to seeing you all there!!!
