Mark Schnorr - Town Assessor

I am Mark Schnorr, your Wheatland Town Assessor.  I grew up in the Town of Webster and worked for the Webster Town Assessor’s office for over 15 years.  I now live in the Town of Victor with my wife Lisa, I have a daughter who lives in California and works with several Napa Valley wineries.  My Son is an accounting major at SUNY Oswego, this school is very special as my entire family has attended SUNY Oswego. In 2009 our family moved to Australia where my wife was the CFO of Hardy’s Wine Company.

When we returned home in 2010, I was hired to be the Town of Wheatland Assessor. I have been kept busy with many different exemption applications and have enjoyed meeting many town residents. I enjoy boating and relaxing at my camp up north at Black Lake where I am also a Town Assessor for another municipality. Wheatland has proven to be a very friendly and pleasant town to work in and I can tell from many of the stories I have heard to date it is also a place where you are happy to live.  Thank you for making me feel so welcome and making my transition to Wheatland smooth and pleasant.  If you have any need to stop in regarding your assessment, or would like to say “Hello”, please feel free to stop in during the office hours on Monday and Wednesdays, from 9:00AM to 1:00PM.  I can also be reached by phone at (585) 889-1553, ext #7 or email at: assessor@townofwheatland.org.

Welcome to the Wheatland Assessor's Office!

The mission of the Wheatland Assessor's Office is to value all real property within the Town in a fair and equitable manner for taxation purposes. This process adheres to the New York State Real Property Tax Assessment Cycle. The Town Assessor prepares the Assessment Roll that lists information for every property in the Town of Wheatland, including the Village of Scottsville. The Assessment Roll becomes the base upon which annual real property tax levies are derived.  The Assessor's Office interacts with the public in numerous ways, including disseminating information about properties in Wheatland to the public and assisting property owners with assessment questions. The Assessor's Office supports the Assessment Review Board at grievance hearings. Services provided by the Assessor's Office include the following:

  • Answering questions regarding a variety of property tax exemptions.
  • Answering questions about a resident's current property.
  • Help prospective home buyers with assessment questions.
  • Providing NYS Assessment exemption forms and helping to fill them out. These forms are also available online at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
