The Fine Art of Hand-Sewing Before there were sewing machines, people sewed garments by hand. Have you ever wondered how? Learn how to hand-stitch a seam, a hem, a buttonhole, and more. Sew with Josefina Come, make something special with the multi-talented Josefina using the beautiful fabric scraps and notions in our shop. We don't know yet what she's got planned, but we are sure it will be wonderful. So come, be surprised and be inspired! No sewing machine experience necessary. Ages 10 & up. Hand-Knotted Prayer / Meditation Beads Did you know that regular contemplative prayer and meditation can change your brain? Researchers are still figuring out how, but the benefits are good! Join us as we use nylon cording to create a couple different varieties of prayer/meditation beads. Suitable for any faith, stringed beads make excellent tools for centering and meditative practices. Wednesday, February 8, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and again Tuesday, February 28, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m. |

Treadle Sewing Machines We are so fortunate to have three treadle sewing machines in the shop right now. Come, learn the difference between rotary and vibrating shuttles, and what it must have been like for your ancestors who machine-sewed without using electricity. It's a little like rubbing your tummy and patting your head all at once while sewing; a full body/mind workout! And you won't have to sew by candlelight: We promise we'll keep the lights on. Measure Up!/Fit It! is back on our calendar, Monday, February 13 at 11 a.m., and again at 4 p.m.! If you wish your clothing fit you better than it does, or if you want to make garments to fit your unique shape, the first step is to obtain an accurate set of measurements. Georgia will provide you with a map of your body. She will also help you understand how to use it when modifying clothing, and when purchasing patterns, fabrics and yarns. Sign up today!
