Make Your Mark Juror: David Limrite September 21- October 18 , 2016 Opening: Sep 30, 5-8 Encaustic Art Institute, Santa Fe, NM "Mark making is the most basic way of communicating between humans. It can be a way to express ideas, images, or thoughts. Cavemen made marks to depict life events with their cave drawings. Egyptians communicated with their hieroglyphic marks. We make marks to communicate in our written language. A mark can be a number or a letter, or it can be just a line or smear. Mark making is, then, making any mark on any surface. But in the artist’s hands, it is also about adding details to impart meaning and depth". - Encaustic Art Institute, 2016 Prospectus Make Your Mark will be exhibited at the Encaustic Art Institute in conjunction with the International Encaustic Artist's Retreat & the Artisans Materials Expo at Buffalo Thunder Resort in Santa Fe, NM, & is open during the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, NM. |

RECENT NEWS My summer kicked of this April when my family and I welcomed our newest daughter, Justine Nova, to the world. We've been blessed with a perfect, smiling, funny little girl and we couldn't be happier (she was even pretty silly in-utero, I guess its just her nature). I am occasionally able to squeeze in some Studio Time and I've begun a new 100 Days of Nap Time Sketches project to keep my creative mind moving and prepare for my next body of work. Mostly, I am enjoying this short lived maternity leave and extended family time. In no time I'll have dedicated studio hours again and crave these sleepy baby days. Please, feel free to spy on my progress through Instagram. I had the great honor of being awarded a scholarship to attend the 10th International Encaustic Conference this past June in beautiful Provincetown, MA. It was my first immersive experience within the encaustic discipline, and it was a wonderful experience. Rarely does an artist get the chance to leave the solitude of the studio and meet so many artists at all stages of their artistic development in one weekend. Some might call it a once in a lifetime experience, but I hope to attending again. Next on the Summer Agenda, a few drawing-and-photographing in the woods day trips, a much needed studio clean out and the assembly of a few antique printing presses. If you find yourself in Oakland this summer please get in touch, I would love to catch up over tea in the Studio, or meet up at a show. Cheers!
