Blood Memory Project Update

Hey TWIN CITIES friends - we're here!

But just before we landed in Minneapolis, we took a a last-minute detour to Vermillion, South Dakota...

We flew out bright and early on Wednesday to attend the University of South Dakota School of Law's 14th Biennial Indian Law Symposium.  Hosted by the university's Native American Law Student Association, this year's conference theme was "ICWA: Old & New Challenges" and it was packed with dailogue and debate about the Bureau of Indian Affairs' new ICWA guidelines An entire session was dedicated to the Oglala Sioux Tribe v. Van Hunnik case and another covered both sides of the Adoptive Couple v. Baby Girl case.

Tomorrow, we'll hop across the river for an extended stay in Saint Paul.  The National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) is hosting its 34th Annual Protecting Our Children National American Indian Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect at the InterContinental Saint Paul Riverfront April 3-6th.  We'll have a booth in their exhibition hall throughout the event so if you're in attendance, come say, "Hey!"

If you're not going to the NICWA conference but you live in the Twin Cities, we'd love to see you at our very first community screening!

THIS MONDAY (April 4th), an in-progress screening of Blood Memory will take place at Creative Arts Secondary School (65 Kellogg Blvd.) in Saint Paul, Minnesota.  Local chef Yazzie the Cook will be there serving up buffalo soup and corn bread from 5:30-6:30pm and the screening itself will start at 7pm.  Walk-ins are welcome, but if you'd like to register in advance or follow along for up-to-the-minute event updates, visit tinyurl.com/BloodMemoryinSP.

We're eternally grateful to John Bobolink and Gail Lamson of the Indian Education Program of Saint Paul Public Schools and to Ben Lacina of Creative Arts Secondary for partnering with us for the past few months as we worked to coordinate the event from afar.

Please help us to spread the word about Blood Memory and this exciting community event by forwarding this message to a friend!

If you haven't already, make sure you check out the film trailer below.

Cheers.
