Dear friends,
I am very excited to announce that the Blood Memory film crew hit the road for another project development trip today!
We're in East Lansing, MI for the Tribal In-House Council Association's Indigenous Law Conference at Michigan State University, November 5th-6th. We look forward to participating in this 12th annual gathering for the first time.
This Saturday, November 7th, we'll attend the Gathering for Our Children and Returning Adoptees Pow Wow in Minneapolis, MN. This event was the catalyst for our film when we first attended five years ago.
A major highlight of this trip will be an interview with former Senator of South Dakota, James Abourezk, who advocated for and helped to pen the Indian Child Welfare Act in the 1970s.
Our last stop will be a meeting with a representative of the public broadcast industry. This person will provide us with invaluable advice as we continue to develop our film in a way that is honest, objective and fit for national distribution.
In the coming months, we will be coordinating our first crowdsource funding campaign via Indiegogo.com. To date, all expenses associated with the development of this film have been out-of-pocket. This campaign will allow us to maintain the momentum we've been able to build. We are in the process of establishing a fiscal sponsor to help manage campaign funds and qualify all contributions as tax deductible for those who donate.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in our film, please encourage them to join our mailing list. In the meantime, stay tuned to our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for additional updates on Blood Memory.
Sincerely,
Megan Whitmer
