Welcome to newsletter #2.
Last time we told you about rule changes to sailing times at Whitehaven and the land stage in Cumbria, but there is a significant rule change in the handicap competition as well.
The handicap competition is fairly new to the race and is awarded the Barmouth Publicity Cup. To date this has only involved those boats which have an existing IRC handicap certificate and the result has been judged on adjusted sailing times.
For 2015 the handicap competition will be judged on adjusted sail times + running times, and all boats will be asked to obtain an IRC certificate. (A one-event certificate is easy to obtain and inexpensive.)
This aim is that next year the overall race winner will be judged on a handicap basis, making for a more open competition and this year will act as a trial run before making such a major change to the race.
There is a bit more information on our Facebook page and those already entered can apply for a one-event certificate from The RORC.
Either click on IRCSER on their website (rorcrating.com) or call 01509 67730.
That's all for now - hope to see you in June!
Yours in Adventure,
The Race Committee
