| | Why a sliding scale? How does it work? The why for me is simple: Economic sustainability for both myself and my clients is important. And money should never be a barrier to health and wellness. So until there is universal health care and massage is covered by all insurance, I will always have a sliding scale available. It is self determined. You choose within the range what you can sustain ($70-$100 for a 60 min, $100-$150 for a 90 min). The rate you choose I then write on your intake form and becomes your rate for future sessions, unless we have a conversation about changing it. Don't know what to pay? Then I suggest you pay the highest rate ($100 for 60 minutes, $150 for 90 minutes) and feel good knowing that you are helping to keep my services accessible to all. Does paying that highest rate make you cringe inside? then that is a clear indication that you should choose a lower rate. Try the middle of the sliding scale ($85 for 60 minutes, $125 for 90 minutes) and see how that feels. | | |
|
| | The rate that doesn't make you cringe, but still feels like a little bit of a stretch is probably the right rate for you. I don't charge extra for add ons or different kinds of massage, unless they require significant extra time (ei, travel or the set up and take down for a couples massage) because I want you to get what you need when you come in for your appointment. And that may have changed since you booked it. Maybe you thought you just wanted a Swedish relaxation massage but then today your back is hurting and some heat and deeper work would feel great! I am happy to heat up the Synergy stones for you and do more deep tissue work. Also, I work very intuitively, and sometimes my instincts are telling me you could really benefit from some cupping, or Thai on the table, or the relaxing scent of lavender. And I want to be able to offer this to you without you worrying about it costing extra. I hope that answers some questions about pricing and money for people. And Feel free to ask questions! | | |

| | DELICIOUSLY Simple Almond Butter Chocolate bars Adapted from the beaming baker. This desert is gluten free, paleo friendly, easily vegan, and absolutely delicious. Ingredients: Almond butter layer - 1/2 cup almond butter
- 1/2 cup coconut flour
- 1/4 cup maple syrup for sweetener of your choice
Chocolate layer - 1/2 cup raw cacao butter
- 1/2 cup cacao powder
- sweetener to taste (maple syrup or honey work well!)
- spices to flavor: I used vanilla, cinnamon, and cardamon
- fresh or dried fruit: I used fresh raspberry pieces
Want to keep it even simpler? Just melt down some semisweet chocolate chips and pour over the almond butter layer.
|
| | Mix the almond butter, maple syrup, and coconut flour together for the bottom layer. Consistency should be dry by malleable. Think pie crust. Then put this on the bottom of a 8x8 inch pan. If you need to you can warm in your oven at the lowest heat (less than 200 F) to help it soften and set. On the stove top, on lowest heat in a small saucepan, melt cacao butter and add cacao powder. Make sure it doesn't burn by stirring often and keeping on LOW heat. Then add your desired spices and any fruit and pour over the almond butter layer. Put in the fridge and let set! I brought these to a song circle recently and the whole pan was gone by the end of the night! Want to learn more healthy, delicious treats, and wellness tricks? Check out my blog or schedule a free one hour health and wellness consultation with me to learn more about the coaching work I do! | | |

Do more of that. For me, the Dances of Universal Peace, which I discover almost 10 years ago, make my heart break open over and over again, expanding and radiating more love and light. And so I continue to deepen in this practice, now leading them and offering their medicine to others.
|
| | The Dances of Universal Peace are a spiritual practice of embodied prayer, drawing on sacred writings and songs from many spiritual traditions from around the world. They began in the late seventies and there are now circles all around the world! The photo to the left is of Leilah Be, a dance leader from Hawaii who was in Ashville leading a retreat this past weekend that I was lucky enough to go to. This Saturday at 7pm is our local monthly Charleston dance circle, and I would love to see you there and share with you the sweetness of this past practice. This Saturday, the 21st of September, is also the Equinox and World Peace Day. What better way to celebrate then to come sing and dance e the Dances Of Universal Peace. This is a open public event. | | Massage is more then just a luxury. It is an invaluable complimentary treatment. How one client found relief from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Some people only think of massage as a luxury treat. But massage is powerful and essential in the treatment of many injuries that can cause pain and discomfort. Here is one such example. Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is caused by the compression of nerve, arteries, or veins in the passageway from the neck to the armpit. The symptoms can include weakness, tingling, numbness, and pain in the arm. Although sometimes the cause is structural (like an extra cervical rib, or a clavical or 1st rib that may need a chiropractic adjustment), most of the time it is caused by an imbalance or tightness in the muscles. Massage can be incredibly beneficial to relieve pain and numbness, by helping these muscles to relax and allowing for a return of normal blood flow and nerve function to the arm. TOS can also often be helped by physical therapy and chiropractic work, but pairing either of these treatments with massage can speed and aid in the recovery and often provide immediate relief. | | |
|
| | Here is what one client of mine had to say in a google review: "I've been struggling with pain and numbness from thoracic outlet syndrome for months now and decided to see Miwa to relieve tension in my back and arm. She knew exactly what my condition was when I explained it to her and spent a full hour targeting my right back, shoulder, neck and arm with deep tissue massage. I noticed instant relief the next day and will certainly be returning for more sessions. I've been to other massage therapists who listen to your problems but then give you what seems to be a standard massage. By contrast, Miwa was knowledgable and responsive to my unique issues, and I would highly recommend her." -M.E. I am delighted to say that I checked in with this client just a few days ago (three weeks since his original appointment) and it is still very much improved, with pain that he was experiencing in his elbow and wrist still gone. He is coming back in to work on some remaining tightness around the scapula, but that is not bad for improvement from just one massage session! If you see a chiropractor or a physical therapist regularly ask them if they feel massage would be beneficial to add to your treatment plan. I think most will agree that targeted massage work can be very beneficial! | | |
