In general, what is your athletic background? I played sports all during my childhood and through High School. Football, baseball and wrestling. My true love always being baseball.
How did you learn about CrossFit Kalamazoo? I work with Sheila and had met Al as well, and knew they both went to Kzoo. I knew it would be easier to go to a box where I already knew people.
How has CrossFit Kalamazoo changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness?
It has completely turned my life back around. As can be imagined being a 3 sport athlete when I was growing up I was in great shape.
Once I left school and got to work in an office everything changed. I started my Journey at 360 pounds and barely being able to make it through a WOD without feeling like I might die… 10 months later I’m down 130 pounds and able to pretend like I know how to workout again.
Combining this with macro tracking (which yes means I weigh everything even celery haha) it made all the difference. I feel strong again like I once did and still hate running just as much as I ever did… I feel happy I will be here to see my son grow up and not go to an early grave leaving him without a father.
List short/long term goals you would like to accomplish through CrossFit Kalamazoo:
Short term is to finish losing the weight and get down to 190.
Long term is just to get better at the technique of the Olympic lifts and get those weights up. Maybe learn to like running, that is probably not true though.
What do you like most about CrossFit Kalamazoo? I like how it feels like coming home. It just part of my life now. I feel bad when I miss a day. Mostly because people then must hear Al complain I didn’t make it in.
