Register Now for CMEA 2018

The 2018 CMEA Clinic/Conference will take place January 25-28, 2017 at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. Registration is now open on the CMEA website. 

 

The 2018 conference will feature Dr. Andrew Dabczynski as the string headliner. Here's a list of some of the great educational string sessions you can expect this January.

Join Us for Our General Membership Meeting at Western States Honor Orchestra

Congratulations to all of the students who were selected for Western States Honor Orchestra. The next Colorado ASTA general membership meeting will take place during this event on Saturday, November 4th from 10:00-11:30am at the Union Colony Civic Center in Greeley. We hope to see many ASTA members there!

We are Looking for a New President-Elect: Consider Getting Involved With Colorado ASTA

Colorado ASTA is now accepting nominations for President-Elect. Candidates may nominate themselves or others. To be considered, candidates must be members of Colorado ASTA. Responsibilities include helping the President and Colorado ASTA Board with planning annual events including the Large Group Orchestra Festival, Summer Conference, CMEA, and CCAP. The Colorado ASTA Board meets monthly. Anyone interested in running should contact Rebecca Jonas, Alison Mayes, or Hannah Smith. 

String Updates and Events from MSU Denver

 MSU OrchestraPalooza! Friday, October 20th

All school orchestras, string ensembles, large chamber groups are welcome to participate. Participants will have the opportunity to perform for our world-class faculty and work with them as clinicians. Other events scheduled for the day are masterclasses and an evening performance. OrchestraPalooza will take place at the King Center on the MSU Denver Campus. More information will be forthcoming.

 

The EOP String Competition and Festival Saturday & Sunday, October 21 and 22

Open to violin, viola, cello, and double bass students aged 7-18. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to perform for a small panel of adjudicators and receive feedback. Other events include - masterclasses, bluegrass workshop, improv workshop, and recitals. The EOP String Competition and Festival will take place at the King Center on the MSU Denver Campus. www.eopcompetiton.com

 

All-State Prep Workshop Monday, October 30

Do you have students auditioning for All-State? Sign them up for this FREE workshop to hone their audition repertoire with MSU Denver faculty. This workshop is open to ALL orchestral and band instruments (not only strings).  

St. Olaf College Orchestra to Visit Colorado This Month

The internationally known St. Olaf Orchestra from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., will perform in Broomfield, Colorado Springs, and Denver as part of their 2017 fall tour. Called “one of the best college orchestras in the nation” by Time magazine’s Richard Ostling, the St. Olaf Orchestra is known for its passionate music-making and professional-level performances. The orchestra’s fall tour repertoire will include Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2, Bartók's Dance Suite, and two student soloist works that will rotate throughout the tour.

Cellist Rushad Eggleston to Offer Workshop and Performance on Saturday, October 7th

 

Cello Workshop

Saturday, October 7 (12:00-2:00pm)

For intermediate - advanced cellists. Come learn some of the mysteries from the Cello Sneth God. Probably will include chord progressions, voicings, improvisation, bowing techniques. Sure to include inspirational mind bombs of music and life.

 

$20 per person. Please RSVP.

$10 for non-cellist auditors/on-lookers

Inventor of bluegrass cello, time traveler, creator of worlds. Pentecostal dancer, proprietor of igwarfnees, president of Norwegian Ostrict Society, winner of some contest in 1725.

 

And most importantly, Rushad inspires and spreads joy wherever he goes. Life is crazy stressful for most of us right now. Come forget about that again, find your inner child, your imagination, your creativity, and your love for music.

 

Suggested donation $20.

 

We will serve light refreshments, feel free to bring something for yourself and/or something to share.
