Our first International Clownfish Captive Breeding Program!

In partnership with Atoll Volunteers, Saving Nemo established our first international clownfish captive breeding program at the Atoll Marine Centre in Naifaru a small island in the Maldives. The Clownfish Centre will initially breed Maldivian clownfish (Amphiprion nigripes) pairs, and provide an educational outreach to the community and the international tourists who regularly visit the Atoll Marine Centre. Saving Nemo Ambassador Cassie Hoepner has taken on the new role as the centre’s Aquarium Biologist and will manage the breeding facility, train the marine biologists working for Atoll Volunteers on how to efficiently maintain the captive breeding program, as well as direct educational programs.

WEEC Conference

Clownfish Education Director Rebecca Phyland and Founder Karen Burke da Silva represented Saving Nemo at the 9th World Environmental Education Congress in Vancouver, Canada September 9 – 15, 2017. The conference has given us some new ideas for the Clownfish Club education programs currently being built.

Saving Nemo is currently looking for new schools across Australia and the Pacific Islands to be part of the Clownfish Club's unique conservation aquaculture program.

Totally Wild

Saving Nemo research biologist Karen Burke da Silva and ambassador Cassie Hoepner featured on Totally Wild’s episode airing on Australian television late July. They talked about some of the interesting clownfish facts many people wouldn’t know, and introduced Saving Nemo and our ICANEMONE citizen science program. You can watch the episode below.
