Jason John - just an ordinary guy? Do you encounter misconceptions about being an artist? Most people think artists are eccentric by nature. I am just an ordinary guy. I know the person I have to be to when I walk into my studio to make my work, but when I’m out of the studio, I just do what ordinary people do (at least I think I do). People meet me and expect me to have rainbow hair or something.

Chuck Drumm- confessions of a book addict What inspires you? Books. Words. I surround myself with books, as much for the visual appeal of them as the content. I have more books than I will ever be able to read in a lifetime. Books of quotes. 1950s Home Ec. textbooks. Old books about beauty and how to attain it. Books of personality tests. Old fiction and new.

Annamarie Pabst - resilience captured What are you presently inspired by? I recently finished a series of charcoal portraits rendered from mugshots taken inside S-21 Prison during the 1970's Khmer Rouge genocide. There were 12 known survivors out of the 17,000 people that were imprisoned there. The drawings are meant to emit a strength of will to survive despite imminent suffering, death, and disappearance.

Frau mit den gratnen Lippen by James Long Portraits emphasize an inherent quality of what we think we see an interpretation of one's self, left to the viewer. Anything we are aware of at a given moment forms part of our consciousness, making conscious experience at once the most familiar and most mysterious aspect of our lives. |

Vivian by Dominique St Cyr To me, the challenge of self expression should be the goal for any artist. Therefore, serious work should always be very personal and very revealing. I think it could honestly be compared to a literary work like an autobiography, where the author shows his/her deepest thoughts and fears in describing oneself. |

Zachary in Chair by Jodie Barbin My portraits explore a facade of tranquility. These are moments of a private life meeting open spaces. We are uncomfortable because we weren't directly invited but also are told to not look away. |

uBe Art is mixing it up for the summer! |

|
In July, artist Rebecca Meredith will be embracing the space. We are turning the reigns over to her creative hands for the entire month - featuring her new series, Constellation, weekend gatherings and a ceiling installation. She has fun stuff in store for you! |
|
|
For August, uBe is busy hammering out a Summer Nights theme - merging art and lounge into a month of being social with art. Forget the daytime! Cocktail hour and art is where it's at this summer. |

Call For Artists Still Life: Past, Present and Future Artists have broadened the traditionally narrow definition of still life painting through the use of new media and new subject matter. They have extended the genre beyond the fruit-and-flower paintings, making art of commercially available items such as Claes Oldenburg’s Tea Bag, Jim Dine’s Bathrobe & Andy Warhol’s Campbell's Soup Cans since the 1960s. Get More Info about this and other Call for Artists! |
