Christmas Update 2015

Another month has gone by and a lot has happened at VISIONEERS. In this newsletter I’d like to tell you about our recent activities.

COSTA RICA VOLUNTEER TRIP 2015

One of the highlights of November was our trip to Costa Rica. With a group of volunteers we made our way to the small town of Limon 2000 to build the foundations and roof of a vocational school. At the start some of our participants had concerns as Carlos, our group leader, advised us not to go out alone, nor bring valuables with us and basically to trust no one we came across.

All these concerns were blown away on our arrival in Limon 2000: ‘The sincerity, warmth and optimism with which we were greeted made everything we had heard seem unimportant’ report Stefanie and Johanna.

Further details of our experiences in Limon 2000 can be read here.

The roof and the foundations of the school were successfully completed thanks to the energetic input of our volunteers. However toilets are still missing from the building. Therefore we’d like to mobilise a team of volunteers to complete the project with the locals in March 2016.

Refugee work in Berlin

Our projects in Berlin are increasingly taking more shape. Our sewing workshop enjoys great popularity and we have enlisted various companies for campaign days.

Crafting with eBay
Along with the eBay coaching team we spent a wonderful day with the refugee children from Wannsee and are excited about this new cooperation.

Cooking with Bonial

We would also like to thank Bonial who sponsored the Friday meet and cooked up a storm.

For several weeks we have been supporting a Berlin refugee center which currently houses 72 underage unaccompanied refugees. In December we would like to start a sports association for them and are looking for your support in the form of footballs and indoor sport shoes.

We are also organising a christmas youth party. We want to provide a space for the young refugees to get to know their peers from the local neighbourhood.

Every Wednesday we invite refugees to Café Connections where they can craft and sew with Julia and Victoria and allow their creativity run wild. Under professional guidance they can cut and sew donated garments and at the same time practice their German skills.

Do you have clothing items in your wardrobe that need to be adjusted? We’ll happily make the necessary adjustments at a workshop for a donation. We can also tailor new creations for you. Contact us!

In addition we still urgently need additional sewing machines for this project. We gratefully accept material and crafting materials on Wednesdays at Café Connections.

I would like to say thank you to all volunteers, supporters, members and donors. Thanks to all of you VISIONEERS has been able to achieve so much.

I’m looking forward to many upcoming activities and wish everyone a lovely Advent!
