The TeamSafe® Report #26

The FDA just made an announcement entitled Making Sure Kids Are Prepared if They Need Epinephrine Treatments in School.

It discusses the importance of being prepared - that EpiPen®s are available and ready to use when needed - including during the school day.

Well, what about while your child plays sports?

If your child's teacher knows that your child needs an EpiPen®, the reasons why, what signs and symptoms to look for, and has it available (most probably via the nurse), wouldn't you want the same for your child's coach? And administrators, just like the school has a record of the child and a consent for administration documented, shouldn't you have the same? Yes, you must!

The article states, "According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 13 children—roughly two in every classroom—has food allergies. And according to the Journal of Asthma and Allergy, approximately 5 to 7.5 percent of people will experience severe reactions to insect stings in their lifetime."

We also know from the medical literature that 90% of people who need an EpiPen® do not know how to use it properly.

Wouldn't it be great if your child's coach had all this on his/her cell phone?

Please watch this short presentation about Anaphylaxis and How to Use an EpiPen®.
