Symposium Video

On, Saturday, April 28th, HPA held it's annual symposium which featured several leading specialists in the fields of neurology and caregiving to answer questions and present on the latest in PD care in Hawaii. Keynote speaker is Amy Lower, MS, CCC-SLP, Educational Coordinator and Instructor at UH Manoa’s Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders, whose talk is titled Keeping Connected: Maintaining Meaningful Communication with PD.  

 

It was wonderful to see so many of you there, THANK YOU for coming out to this fantastic event!  For those of you who were not able to attend, or for those who attended and just want to see all the great information again, we made a video of the event.

  • Big Island, Waimea Support Group ~ Second Wednesday of the month, from 1-2:30 PM at Tutu’s House in Waimea.  Next meeting will be May 9. Madeline Sofranac (Maddy) will be leading this month’s talk story while Joel & Phyllis are traveling off Island. Maddy will share her expertise on how to improve your PD symptoms and what classes she offers

 

  • Big Island, Hilo Support Group ~ Last Friday of every month, 2-4 PM.  Meets at Office of Aging, Hilo: 1055 Kinoole St #101.  Next meeting May 25. Yoga for PD teacher and HPA Board member, Lindsey Sutton will be the speaker at the May meeting.

  • Midweek Publication, Windward O'ahu-Voice Community News featured an article titled Kane'ohe Resident Advocates for State's Parkinson's Patients,written by Paige Takeya. This article featured HPA's Board President, Jerry Boster, and his trip to the National Parkinson Policy Forum in Washington, DC, in March. were he went to advocate for federal funding for Parkinson's research.   • April was Parkinson's Awareness Month and there was an article in the North Hawai`i News section (insert of the sports section) of the West Hawai`i) April 23rd newspaper.
