Teacher Resource of the Month

Sync Audiobooks

What is SYNC?

What?

SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+. Returning April 26, 2018, SYNC will give away two complete audiobook downloads a week - pairs of high interest titles, based on weekly themes.   In 2017, 32 titles were given away over 16 weeks.

Why?

SYNC introduces a variety of audiobook experiences to teens to demonstrate that reading can be completed by listening.

Who?

SYNC is sponsored by AudioFile Magazine and titles are delivered through the OverDrive app. In advance of accessing the program, download the app in advance to whichever device you anticipate listening on and be ready to go!

How?

Sign-up to get notifications when the FREE audiobook downloads are available. You can receive alerts by text message, email newsletter, or by visiting www.audiobooksync.com. Titles change every Thursday at 7am ET when the program is running.

Please Note: Signing up for these alerts will not send you the titles. The alerts will only tell you when and where the title is available to download.

Download Details

Downloads are in MP3 format, hosted by OverDrive, and are Mac and Windows compatible.

Downloads will operate through the OverDrive app.

Most listening devices are supported.

Each SYNC audiobook will be available for download for a period of 7 days (only).

Titles, once downloaded, are yours to keep.

Lesson of the Month

Book Pass

Often we have teachers ask us to pull certain types of books off the shelves, such as non-fiction or world cultures, so students can more quickly and easily select titles. We then display them on the tables in the library classroom and, during class, students can browse, read a few pages, take notes, and make their selections.

If you would like your class(es) to come to the library to select books that have been vetted by you and the librarians, let us know and we will help you compile a list of titles.

Ebook of the Month

A Piece of the World

"To Christina Olson, the entire world was her family’s remote farm in the small coastal town of Cushing, Maine. Born in the home her family had lived in for generations, and increasingly incapacitated by illness, Christina seemed destined for a small life. Instead, for more than twenty years, she was host and inspiration for the artist Andrew Wyeth, and became the subject of one of the best known American paintings of the twentieth century." -Goodreads

Video of the Month

"Budgeting and Financial Decision Making"

"This program gives students a solid grounding in a variety of real-life money matters: it provides financial decision-making methods, advises on consumer concerns such as buying versus renting, outlines insurance types and terminology, and discusses the financial scams that students are most likely to encounter. Reviewing the critical concepts of impulse buying and opportunity cost, the video also demonstrates how to set goals and create a budget based on the 50/30/20 plan. Highlights include graphical breakdowns of the PMI and PACED decision-making methods, maintaining wireless Internet security to avoid identity theft, and a realistic way to choose when faced with a not-so-simple yes-or-no financial decision. A viewable/printable instructor’s guide is available online."

Staff Book Club

One Goal, by Amy Bass, is the selection for our final Staff Book Club!

Our next meeting is June 12th, so please join us!

We've purchased two paper copies for the library and have the ebook version available on the nooks, as well.  Stop by and check it out!

"In the tradition of Friday Night Lights and Outcasts United, ONE GOAL tells the inspiring story of the soccer team in a town bristling with racial tension that united Somali refugees and multi-generation Mainers in their quest for state--and ultimately national--glory.

When thousands of Somali refugees resettled in Lewiston, Maine, a struggling, overwhelmingly white town, longtime residents grew uneasy. Then the mayor wrote a letter asking Somalis to stop coming, which became a national story. While scandal threatened to subsume the town, its high school's soccer coach integrated Somali kids onto his team, and their passion began to heal old wounds. Taking readers behind the tumult of this controversial team--and onto the pitch where the teammates vied to become state champions and achieved a vital sense of understanding--ONE GOAL is a timely story about overcoming the prejudices that divide us." -Goodreads

New Library Sign-in System!

Due to the myriad issues we've had with students signing out from study hall and failing to appear in the library, we've implemented a new digital pass system.

Students are now required to request a digital pass prior to their study hall.

Study hall teachers should approve or revoke the digital pass before they allow students to leave for the library.

The student instructions have been sent out and are still accessible via the Advisory Google Classroom.

Links to the Library Digital Pass page are now accessible via the library website under "For Teachers" and "For Students."

Click on the image above to access the sign-in system.

Click on the buttons below for access to the instructions.

Students will still need their IDs to sign in to the library!
