American Canyon Arts Foundation,  February 2018

JOIN US FOR A VALENTINE CRAFT EVENT!

The Arts Foundation is teaming up with the Chamber of Commerce to offer a free crafts experience for kids of all ages!  This Saturday, February 10, from 1-3 pm, at the Welcome Center, we'll have artists and supplies to help build beautiful cards for that special someone.  We'll also have See's Candy on sale--we want everyone to know that art and chocolate go together!

2018 ART EXTRAVAGANZA

Our major fund raising event is now underway.  Our Call For Art is ready for downloading, and the show will be part of the Napa County Arts in April program.

There are a few changes for this year.  The biggest is the venue.  We are proud to announce our new Premier Sponsor, SpringHill Suites Resorts at the Napa County Airport.  SpringHill Suites will be the site for the show. We also decided to cancel the Director's Show, so we can concentrate on the main event!   The show itself will run for fewer days, April 27-29, 2018. The artist reception, including silent auction, will be on the last day, Sunday, April 29.

We also made some minor adjustments to the entry fees.  For ACAF members, the first entry will be $20; other entries will only be $10 each.  Non-members will pay $20 for all entries.  If you want to join the Foundation, for $45 you will get a year's membership plus one entry.  All subsequent entries will by $10 each.

As we did last year, entries will be electronically submitted.  Our judges will decide which art will be included based on that digital review, but the actual ranking of art, including who is first, second and third, will be done in person.

The deadline to enter is Friday, March 30.

BIG TURNOUT FOR ANNUAL DINNER

We held our 26th annual Membership Dinner at LaStrada Restaurant on January 21.  We had over 30 people attending.  The official purpose of the meeting was to distribute our 2017 Annual Report, as well as to elect Board Members.  Elected to a two year term were:

  • Lynn Dykstra
  • Gloria Fouts
  • Arvind Nischal
  • Francois Bowlby
  • Ari Hood; and
  • Patricia Oro (NEW)

Returning for the balance of their two year term were the following:

  • Mark Joseph
  • Roberta Labaw
  • Jonnette McNaughton
  • Joey McNaughton
  • Robert Johnson
  • Patti Krueger; and
  • Fayza Hamid

This leaves two vacancies on the Board, which can be filled by a future Board of Director's action. Let us know if you're interested in serving!

The guest speaker was Jamie Graff, co-founder and executive director of Nimbus Arts.  She talked to the group about the history of her art nonprofit, and how it truly engages the community.  She noted that her organization received grant funds to host four community events in Napa County, and she felt a date in American Canyon could be arranged.  The biggest project Nimbus is currently working on is to develop a campus at the south end of the County, likely in Napa City.  This would allow Nimbus the ability to expand services, including American Canyon.

The membership enjoyed the talk and there was a consensus to work on a community art project, possibly a mosaic or other public artwork, as part of the new Boys and Girls Club.
