Celebrating HIN joining OCCI Healthcare Division In our last newsletter, we announced that Healthcare Interpretation Network (HIN) joined the Ontario Council on Community Interpreting (OCCI) Healthcare Division to ensure the continuity of its work, mandates, and legacy. Today, we are annoucing a special promotion to mark this milestone. OCCI will continue to work on the original HIN mandate of professionalizing the sector and advocating for equal access to healthcare services for linguistically diverse populations. Thanks to all who have been part of this milestone, especially, members of the HIN and OCCI Board of Directors, and in particular Anita Tancredi from the Hospital for Sick Children who, participating on Boards, took the lead to make this possible. As a way to celebrate the integration of the Healthcare Interpretation Network into the OCCI Healthcare Division, the Ontario Council on Community Interpreting (OCCI) is glad to extend a special promotion for those who have graduated from the Language Interpreter Training Program (LITP). OCCI will offer LITP graduates a special first-time application rate of $75 to those who apply for accreditation between now until June 30th. (Applications must be complete, with all required supporting documentation, at time of submission in order to qualify for this special offer.)” |

Interpreter Online Resources: CCHI Mini-Glossaries This is a volunteer-led project of the CCHI (Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters, in the U.S.) "During the first phase of the project, the CCHI Mini-Glossaries will consist of 50-101 words and terms. They’ll be organized thematically around an appointment type, in a logical sequence rather than alphabetically." Glossaries are currently being developed in English, Arabic, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, and Spanish. An exciting and collaborative intiative! "Review healthcare terminology by body systems and appointment type, like prenatal visits, eye appointments, various specialty types, hospital stays and more." Recent Publications: "How to get it right when contracting Conference Interpreting services" by Helen Campbell and Lola Bendana Available in hard copy now.
