Il Riso di Mazao a Kalemie, un successo acquisito sul campo! Conclusasi a dicembre la prima fase del Programma Filiera Agro-ecologica del Riso, 18 ettari di Riso piantati a Kampunda col metodo dell’SRI (Sistema di Risicultura Intensivo) e l’elogio della Ministra Provinciale. Il programma del riso ha ricevuto l’elogio della Ministra Provinciale degli affari Sociali e della Famiglia per l’enorme contributo che sta dando il progetto in partenariato con WFP-PAM non solo per lo sviluppo agricolo della zona ma soprattutto per la stabilità e la pace della zona. La Ministra si riferisce al ruolo decisivo che ha avuto l’inclusione della popolazione pigmea nel progetto (più della metà dei 3160 beneficiari totali) nella stabilità di quest’area. I Pigmei coinvolti hanno deciso di non allearsi ai loro fratelli confinanti che hanno recentemente attaccato molti villaggi per inasprire il conflitto in atto tra Bantu e Pigmei. La volontà dei pigmei di Kampunda al mantenimento della pace è dovuta all’interesse e benessere economico generato dal lavoro del progetto; inoltre grazie alle formazioni alla coltivazione del riso, saranno in grado di replicare l’esperienza anche in altre zone in caso volessero spostarsi (si tratta di popolazioni nomadi) e quindi potranno migliorare la propria condizione autonomamente. La chiave del conflitto è sempre di natura economica, si tratta di popolazioni che vivono di stenti e quindi sono pronti a tutto per pochi dollari. L’esempio di quest’ultimi mesi ci conferma che la presenza attiva degli agenti di sviluppo residenti nei villaggi di intervento, associata ad azioni inclusive mirate al miglioramento delle condizioni di vita a lungo termine delle popolazioni più vulnerabili, può davvero incidere sul futuro di queste aree. |

Mazao’s rice in Kalemie, a success gained on the field. In December the first phase of the Agro-ecological Rice Supply Chain Programme was concluded. 18 hectares of paddy rice were planted in Kampunda by using the SRI method (System of Rice Intensification) and the Provincial Minister lauded the initiative. The Provincial Minister of Social Affairs and the Family lauded the rice programme for the huge contribution the project is giving, in partnership with WFP-PAM, to the local agricultural development and especially to peace and stability of this area. The Minister refers to the decisive role which the inclusion of Pygmies population in the project (more than half of the 3,160 beneficiaries) has played in building stability in this area. Pygmies involved decided not to join their nearby brothers which recently attached lots of villages in the zone to pump the actual conflict between Bantu and Pygmies. The will of the Kampunda’s Pygmies to maintain peace is due to their interest and economic wellbeing generated thanks to the activity of the project. Furthermore, since they have been trained to the rice farming, they will be able to replicate the experience also in other areas, if they decide to move (they are nomads). Therefore, they will be able to improve their condition autonomously. The key of the conflict is always economic, since they are extremely poor and would do anything for a few dollars.The example of the last months confirms that the active presence of development agents living in the villages where the intervention is made, associated with inclusive actions targeted to the improvement of life conditions of vulnerable populations in the long term can actually have a positive impact on the future of these areas. |
