TRIVIA! The second Guardian Herd book I wrote was not STORMBOUND. It was a book that went back 400 years to tell Nightwing's story. However, my editor and I decided to continue on with the GH series in a more linear fashion, so I wrote STORMBOUND and that became book two. However, I still have the original book #2, which is titled RISE OF NIGHTWING. It chronicles Nightwing's life from age seven months. In this novel, you meet the legendary characters Spiderwing, Hollyblaze, and Raincloud (the youngest Desert Herd mare to fly in the jet streams). You find out who murdered Hollyblaze and why Nightwing can't kill Spiderwing. You also learn Nightwing's shameful secret, and you find out what happens to him after he receives his starfire and then mysteriously vanishes. You also witness his devastating return. I still hope to publish this prequel!! But it all depends on reader demand. (In fact, my entire career depends upon reader demand.) Thank you for being such devoted readers! |

WINGBEATS BOOK CLUB War Horse by Michael Morpurgo Suggested by: Dragon on the MB This is our book for December and January. It should be easy to find at school and public libraries. It is also a movie, but read the book first! I'm sorry I wasn't too involved in A Wrinkle In Time. The Tubbs fire threw me off my game. Choose your favorite story or fairy tale and re-tell it! You can change the setting, the species of the characters, and/or when it takes place. You can also choose a new point of view character. For instance, you could re-tell Pinoochio but set the book in the future and make him a robot instead of a puppet. Or you could re-tell Hansel and Gretal from the point of view of the witch who wants to eat the kids. Or you could re-imagine Cinderalla as a tale set in the wild west. Get the idea? Re-telling existing stories is a great exercise because you don't have to worry so much about the plot and what is going to happen next. Within the constraints of the existing story, you can let your imagination soar! Have fun! |

A DAY IN THE LIFE Authors do a lot of their own promoting-perhaps more than most people realize.
I make appearances, speak on conference panels, and visit schools. Fortunately, I love marketing and promoting! Most of all, I love meeting readers. So part of my day is always spent answering to or looking for opportunities to spread awareness about my books. Besides in person appearances, I schedule blog tours, cover reveals, guest posts, and interviews. I post on social media and try my best to promote others as well because I know how hard it is to promote yourself. I also write these monthly newsletters and film monthly videos!
