Climate Kids Partnerships Expand to North County The Alliance’s Climate Kids Program has boomed in recent months, and has started new partnerships in North County. Climate Kids-Carmel Del Mar began in September and Climate Kids-Jefferson Elementary in Carlsbad launched in November. Both programs focused on climate change impacts to marine species with hands-on science, field trips, art projects, and interactive assemblies being shared to over 1,000 students. Special thanks to our partners, StayCool 4 Grandkids and the California Coastal Conservancy, for helping make this new endeavor a success!

Climate Kids-Mexico Joins Forces with Out of the Boat Swim Climate Kids-Mexico was a part of Out of the Boat Swim's Summer Camp on the beach. About 50 youth went through the Climate Kids program, all ranging from 6 to 17 years old! As a team, Climate Kids-Mexico (CKM) and Out of the Boat Swim (OBS) developed an integrated environmental education approach to this summer camp. The OBS summer camp took place on the beach and taught about water safety and marine life. CKM used this opportunity to teach OBS coordinators, mentors and kids about climate change.

Mission Bay High School In November, Climate Science Alliance staff and partners shared the story of climate change with high school students at Mission Bay High School (MBHS). Climate Kids Ambassadors-MBHS was launched through a new partnership with key leaders, including Principal Ernest Remillard and science teacher, Steve Walters. In collaboration with partners Stay Cool, San Diego Coastkeeper, and Nos de Chita, we hosted a week-long series of events where we engaged over 1,100 high school students. Through thought-provoking presentations, hands-on science, and performing arts focused on climate change themes students learned about climate change impacts on natural resources and what they can do to help. Mirroring the approach from Climate Kids-Mexico, these students are being trained to be part of the Climate Kids program at Pacific Beach Elementary school in 2017.
