PORT OF COOS BAY AWARDED $11 MILLION GRANT

FOR REPAIRS TO RAIL LINE

We congratulate the Port of Coos Bay on achieving this grant. The improvements to the tunnels along its line are a significant step towards the capability to double stack containers. The continued improvement of the rail line is a dynamic process which fosters the future of Coos Bay as a major seaport.

DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

Dear friends:

Our Oregon Shipping Group is continuing to gather support on two fronts.

One front is legislative: establish an Oregon Shipping Authority, a public corporation which supports planning and development of Oregon’s shipping capabilities. This includes port development, improvement of rail lines, establishment of transload facilities, and reform of laws and rules which unduly restrict trucking.

The second front is practical: even without legislation, bring together investors, importers, exporters, and other business groups to identify and develop projects which enhance and improve Oregon’s shipping capability. This vision is to have Oregon take advantage of its outstanding West Coast geographical advantages and develop major seaports, with associated rail and road connections, for shipping into, through, and out of Oregon.

A focal point of our effort is the return of container shipping to Terminal 6 at the Port of Portland – but it must be predictable, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective.

We welcome your feedback and suggestions as to all shipping issues. Also, please forward this newsletter to your friends and business associates.

Sincerely,

Kevin L. Mannix
