Whiskey by Ashlie DaCosta Self-identity--it includes our past and future selves, personality and physical attributes, self-assesments, skills and abilities. Our future or "possible selves" represent one's idea of who we might become, who we would like to be, and who we are afraid of being. My series portrays a variety of personalities set against colored backdrops utilizing props to enhance the subject's individuality. The photographs investigate visual personas; every individual creates and represents their own identity.

V3 by Jason John I represent figures ensnared in environments of uneasiness and flux. Figures in my paintings are partially concealed by veils or masks that obscure the face--concealing the identity of the subject alters the viewer's intimate access. The characters become part of the material environment. They can evolve toward empowered subjects or devolve into beautifully crafted objects deprived of identity. The viewers own identity and perceptual biases inevitably contribute to resolving the significance of the artwork. |

Charles by Jordan Jurich-Weston
My work documents a running interior monologue about the love and heartbreak of family and the loaded space that is home. I get lost in the light that slices through the rooms of my house. I follow it as it distorts and disorients and reveals and conceals in arbitrary breaks that paint spaces and figures. With its courage I tell stories with a blatant disregard for what is and is not allowed to be seen. |

Gestalt I by Ashley Middleton My series emerged from an interest in understanding the process of becoming "me". I visualize a system for understanding the self as drawn through habits of sight. Overtime these patterns become invisible and form judgements that support a way of seeing that limits one's reality. I am not only trying to understand how the physicality of my body is embedded in my understanding of self but also how the appearance of my body establishes connections and/or disconnections with others and with myself. |
